I am trying to re-install flight simulator X after deleting the program from my SSD (I experienced several CTD while in simulation, there were no error messages. Program just stopped!).The installation seems to work perfectly, right up to completion and then I have the information - Error 1603 -fatal error- Consult Windows Installer Help (msi.chm) or MSDN for more info.I am running Windows 10 (64bit) with all the updates.and I think that this should work with no problems.- Ran sfc / scannow and found no errors.- Both DVD discs were checked for errors but none were found.Have you an answer to the problem? Hi MiltonMy name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP.

I'm here to help you with your problem.Flight simulator was last released in 2006, so, it is not certified compatible with recent versions of Windows.Your best option is setup a dual boot configuration with an older version of Windows, such as Windows 7 32 bit and install it there. This is if your hardware can still run Windows 7. Most modern computers especially those with Skylake and Kabylake processorsor AMD Ryzen don't support Windows 7.If yours does, then here is how you do it:Another option is compatibility mode, but many Flight Simulator users have seen limited success with it, but its worth a try as a first option:Run Old Software on Windows 10 with Compatibility Mode - groovyPostInformation in the above link is sourced from a trusted Microsoft MVP blog.Best regards, Andre Da Costa Independent Advisor for Directly. Hi Milton,Your 1603 Error is very likely an installer error which can happen when FSX is re-installed. Even though the usual error codes are 1605, 1607, 1622, 1628 and 1722, it may well be that 1603 is a part of that group. My suggestion is to go to this link:and download the software licencing tool reset package (the MS link has been dead for many years). Follow the instructions but bear in mind that when you come to the part to open Command Prompt, then use Command Prompt (Admin). As well, after the reset has taken place, reboot your computer. These two instructions are not in the readme file in the reset package. Then attempt to reinstall FSX and see if this works.

And before you install Service Packs 1 and 2, run FSX in any flight first and check that everything is working as it should. Then after you install SP1, again take a flightso that the SP1 files are located and activated properly.

Then install SP2.BTW, your log book problems are very likely because of a corrupt logbook. There are options for this, but if you are installing FSX, then the logbook problem will be fixed. I don't use the logbook for this reason and keepmy logs on a spreadsheet (deleting log book entries in the FSX logbook after each flight).Let us know how you go and if you have any other problems.Chris. Hi Milton,Just going through your actions for resetting the Installer, I would highlight the following:a. Did you go into the Command Prompt (Admin)?

If you're not sure how, then type Command Prompt in your Cortana Search box and there should be some options for that on your right. Choose Run as Administrator.b. Once you get into Command Prompt (Admin) window it will show the heading: 'Administrator: Command Prompt' and your first line will be: C:WINDOWSsystem32 (or whichever drive your Windows is installed in).c. If you are using C: for Windows then at that line, type cd c:microsoftKB928080 and hit Enter (which will take you to a new line). Use another drive letter pertaining to the drive you are using that has the KB928080 copied to.What you're doing here is to change directory (cd) from C:Windowssystem32 to c:microsoftKB928080.d.

At the new line, type resetsldl /a and Enter. There should be a space before the oblique stroke, or else, try it without the space.Hope it works.Chris.
