May 31, 1999 For Ape Escape on the PlayStation, GameFAQs has 9 FAQs (game guides and walkthroughs). Ape Escape - Walkthrough/FAQ. Ape Escape is not the Mario of the PlayStation, it's something different. It's a skilled-based platformer that is technically deft but lacks the marketable mascot.
Its pretty easy to get up and running. You can use a frontend like medgui but its not really needed.
A good text editor like notepad is all you need if you need to change settings. To get setup all you need is to make sure you have the correct bios. Mednafen is picky it wants scph5501.bin for USA games, scph5502.bin for Europe, and scph5500.bin for Japan. If you don't have them don't ask, google it.
Its very easy to find. If you have the correct files just create a folder called 'firmware' in your mednafen folder and copy them into it. At that point you just need to drag and drop your Ape Escape CUE file onto it and it should boot right up.To setup your controller either use a frontend or open a text editor and change 'psx.input.port1 gamepad' to 'psx.input.port1 dualshock' if you want to make use of analog. Then once your in game press alt+shift+1 and it will guide you through setting up your controller. At that point everything else is personal preference how you want it to look and so on.Expanded documentation can be found here. Its looking good.
If I knew you were going to use my notes I would have grammared better than I normally do or lack there of ha.I don't know anything about editing wikis and seeing as how I just woke up its probably for the best. Some notes:Hopefully this mess will make sense so early in the morning. There is a practically invisible how-to section under Netplay. Its focused on one GUI and not even be useable for any other GUI which is why that section is about useless. For your section, I should clarify what I was saying. Seeing as how Mednafen is a multisystem emulator the psx settings and bios aren't applicable to other systems. I know you and I know that but others might not.The reason for suggesting is because the cfg file mednafen uses isn't formatted to be easy to read. You can make due with just notepad if you know what you are looking for but Notepad automatically breaks up all the sections to be very easy to read without altering its layout. The only other system I know of according to the documentation that mednafen uses bios for currently is and it needs it to be named pcfx.rom so unless you speak Japanese all you should need is the usa and europe psx bios.In the cfg file for any system you want to edit all you need to know is the short name of the system and the command which makes it surprisingly easy to configure if your not afraid of text files. For example if you want to make super nintendo look a little nicer open the cfg file with the text editor then search for snes.special and change 'snes.special none' to 'snes.special hq4x' or snes.scanlines 0-100 for fake scanlines on LCDs.For launching Mednafen with command line you don't have to specify the system you want to emulate unlike most multisystem emulators like MESS.
Which is useful for frontends like Hyperspin.
